A Focus on the Figure: Introduction to Figure Drawing

Date: Friday, March 01, 2013
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Teacher: Michael Horowitz
Type: Drawing Class

Artist Michael Horowitz focuses on how to draw the figure in a series of Friday night classes (3/1, 3/15, 3/22 & 3/29). Using the Museum’s collections as inspiration, participants explore the figure through gesture, basic construction, basic anatomy and self-expression by using a variety of styles to draw a live, clothed, figure model.

Introduction to Figure Drawing
Both Eastern and Western artists have been inspired by the figure, from the graceful Shiva, Lord of the Dance to the female nudes of Aristide Maillol. After looking at works of art in the galleries, participants analyze and learn the basics of figure drawing: silhouette, gesture, contour drawing and composition.
