Though not based on an actual post card, this painting is inspired by stereoscopic photographs. Drips of paint and scribbled lines suggest and simulate the impurities of the "printing process." The inclusion of the words "Post Card" brings the painting into the discourse of commerce and incorporates a public, shared image. An eerie nostalgia, evoked by the lifeless, barren landscape, is further emphasized by the repeated dedications of "This painting is dedicated to the American..." View Provenance |
