His women are frequently portrayed holding musical instruments, usually guitars or mandolins. This serene and pensive woman sits in a blue chair, holding a mandolin and a sheet of music. The composition begins as a series of large, flat, colored planes, not unlike those of Cubist pasted paper collages.
