| Adios, 1969 Edward Ruscha American, 1937- Lithograph on calendered Rives BFK paper; torn and deckle edges, bleed image sheet: 9-3/8 x 22-1/8 in. (23.8 x 56.2 cm) Norton Simon Museum, Anonymous Gift P.1972.08.022 © 2012 Edward Ruscha Not on view “Words have temperatures to me,” Ruscha noted in 1973. “When they reach a certain point and become hot words, then they appeal to me. ‘Synthetic’ is a very hot word. Sometimes I have a dream that if a word gets too hot and too appealing, it will boil apart, and I won’t be able to read or think of it. Usually I catch them before they get too hot.” Split fountain is a silk-screening technique in which several colors are used in a single run to create a gradation of blended colors. |
