(24.5 x 30.5 cm) Norton Simon Museum, Anonymous Gift P.1972.08.024 © 2012 Edward Ruscha Not on view June Wayne, the founder and first director of the Tamarind Lithography Workshop, wrote the following in 1965: “In the same way that a play is created by its author and each performance of that play is an original live performance, each impression hand-pulled from the artist’s drawing on the stone is an original lithograph. There will be slight variations in each performance of a play; correspondingly there will be slight variations in each impression pulled from the stone. Application of ink by hand roller, pressure of paper to image, [and] irregularity of handmade paper contribute to the subtle differences found in a single edition.” |
