It is a religion based on the doctrine of ahimsa or the non-harming of all living things. Images of Jinas or supreme beings are often portrayed in the body-abandonment pose whereby the arms hang to the side without touching the body. This particular image depicts the Jina Suparsvanatha, the tenth jina in the Jain pantheon. He is identified by his five-hooded serpent canopy. |
