Kneeling Woman, modeled in 1911, marked a major stylistic shift in the German’s work, and the elongated body and pensive expression became characteristic of his figures. He created not only full figures but also “details,” which are concentrated statements of a completed work. In its serene grace and eloquent gesture, Inclined Head of Kneeling Woman expresses the essence of the larger figure on which it is modeled, while further emphasizing the intimacy that emanates from the original pose. |
