Not on View

In 1916, Emmy Scheyer attended an exhibition where she saw paintings by Jawlensky, including one entitled "The Hunchback," dated 1911. She was so overwhelmed by his work that she resolved to meet the artist; in turn, she initiated a friendship that would last until his death 24 years later. Jawlensky painted this version of "The Hunchback" for Scheyer as a keepsake.
