Seated Female Nudes
1913-1914
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (German, 1880-1938)
Not on View

The right hand figure is seated on what appears to be a rose and yellow lounge chair, her legs pulled up and curled under her. The figure on the left prepares to sit. The most notable feature of this work is the deft and aggressive rendering of the pencil sketch. Kirchner drew his composition in soft graphite pencil, and then added the faint and spare touches of watercolor wash. Undissolved particles of watercolor are visible in the red areas.
