Oskar Schlemmer (German, 1888-1943)
Not on View

Schlemmer was a painter, sculptor, stage designer, and writer. His interest in Cubism led to abstract experiments; by 1916 he had developed his own individual conception of the human figure. He taught at the Bauhaus from 1920 to 1929, first as master of the sculpture workshop, and later as the head of the stage workshop. After his art was declared degenerate by the Nazis in 1937, he became a house painter in Stuttgart and later worked at a painting factory.
