Self-Portrait in Profile
1959
Marcel Duchamp (French, 1887-1968)
Not on View

Originally, Duchamp created his "Self-Portrait in Profile" to accompany the deluxe edition of Robert Lebel's monograph on the artist, "Sur Marcel Duchamp," printed in Paris in 1959. In May of that year, the bookstore Librarie La Hune hosted a party to a celebrate the book's release. Duchamp agreed to allow his self-portrait to be reproduced as a poster to promote the event, and he signed 40 copies printed without the poster text.
