Aureole with Hevajra and Yoginis
12th century
Asia: Thailand, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phimai
Not on View

This halo was once attached to the back of a deity's head, most likely that of a Buddha. At the apex of the halo is a figure of the god Hevajra, who has eight heads, four legs and sixteen arms and dances upon a solar disk. Hevajra tramples the four demons of illusion and is therefore an appropriate emblem for a halo.
