The Densatil monastery in central Tibet was founded in the 12th century; architectural fragments and smaller free-standing sculptures have survived, the majority of which are richly gilded and inlaid with semiprecious stones. In this architectural element, perhaps a corner panel for a much larger decorative scheme, three celestial figures seated on clouds holds scarves as oblations to the Buddha. The background is covered with auspicious symbols, including hanging garlands, conch shells and vessels holding precious gems.
