| The Dressmakers Under the Lamp, c. 1891-1892 Édouard Vuillard French, 1868-1940 Oil on cardboard 9-5/8 x 10-1/2 in. (24.4 x 26.7 cm) Norton Simon Art Foundation M.1979.41.2.P © 2011 Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York / ADAGP, Paris Reproduction, including downloading of ARS works is prohibited by copyright laws and international conventions without the express written permission of Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York On view Vuillard and Bonnard found their subjects within the confines of the home. Because of this predilection for the private and personal, they were dubbed "intimists." Vuillard loved to paint the long-observed scenes of household occupations that were a part of his everyday life with his mother and sister, as in "Dressmakers Under a Lamp." The warm colors are packed into tight, flat patterns, and every form reveals itself solely through color. View Provenance
