Drawing from the Masters: A Modern Approach
Date: Friday, August 09, 2013
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Speaker: Roderick Smith
Type: Drawing Class
Join artist Roderick Smith for a series of drawing classes inspired by master works in the Norton Simon collections, from ancient India and Southeast Asia to modern-day Europe and America. Each session follows a different path through the Museum, exploring the fundamentals of art. Examine a variety of works with the goal of understanding the essential elements of composition and design.
Participants interact with the distillations of composition and design that represent modernist sensibilities. Sculptural works by Moore, Brancusi and Maillol and paintings by Picasso and Braque offer vivid examples of artists who deliberately chose the expressive power of simple form and minimalistic compositions.
Meets in Entrance Gallery | All levels of experience are welcome. Each class is $20 ($16 for members), and space is limited to 18 participants. All materials and admission to the galleries on the day of class are included. | Online registration is required. For further information, contact the Education Department at (626) 844-6980.
