A significant cultural and community asset, the Norton Simon Museum promotes and encourages the study of the visual arts. The permanent collection is the foundation upon which the Museum offers a variety of educational programs and resources. To ensure the masterpieces and programs are accesible to all students, the Museum extends free admission to all students who present a current school I.D.
The Museum provides both private tours and monthly free public tours of the collections conducted by Museum Educators. For a nominal fee, audio tours are available to enhance patrons understanding of the collections. Scholarly lectures and special events are all based on the permanent collection and are free with paid admission unless otherwise noted. Additionally, the Education Department offers a series of adult art history classes on Saturday mornings before the Museum opens to the public. The class fee includes same-day admission to the galleries.
The Museum employs professional art historians as Museum Educators to tour students through the Museum before the galleries are open to the public. The are no fees for these tours, which are partially supported by corporate sponsors and our Benefactor membership level.
Teacher aides are available online under study guides.
