The Face of the Renaissance: Materials and Techniques of a Northern Master
An Artist’s Demonstration by Sylvana Barrett

Date : Thursday, March 8, 2012
Time : 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Host : Sylvana Barrett
Type : Adult Art History Class

Join artist and educator Sylvana Barrett for a lecture and demonstration of Renaissance painting technique. The focus of this program is Hans Memling, the 15th-century northern European artist whose Portrait of a Man, c. 1470–75, is on loan from The Frick Collection this season and will hang alongside the Museum’s Christ Giving His Blessing, 1478. A discussion of Renaissance technique through materials and methods is illustrated by a display of historic pigments, binders and equipment typical of an artist’s studio in the 15th century.

Presented in the Museum's theater. The program is for visitors of all ages with comments and questions encouraged throughout. Free with admission; no registration required.
