A Challenge for Creative Expression: Stylization and Appropriation

Date : Friday, February 17, 2012
Time : 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Teacher : Jose Antonio Aguirre
Type : Adult Drawing Class

The Norton Simon Museum is known for its collection of works by many of the world’s greatest artists. Join artist José Antonio Aguirre as he investigates how artists in the Museum’s collections have expressed their creative visions and changed the course of art history, from ancient to modern times. Participants are encouraged to use a variety of drawing techniques to create original reinterpretations of selected works of art in the galleries.

Stylization and Appropriation
Participants select works of art from the exhibit Proof: The Rise of Printmaking in Southern California to create a piece that is rendered as an opposite (a black-and-white image into a color one, or vice versa). They reinterpret the original artwork, emphasizing the graphic quality of the design.

All levels of experience are welcome. Each class is $20 ($16 for members), and space is limited to 18 participants. All materials and admission to the galleries on the day of class are included. Online registration is required.
