The urge to portray ourselves, to create a unique (and best) version of ourselves, comes from a very deep and important place. And at no time is that connection between our facade and our soul felt deeper than as we make our way through our youthful years. Local artist J Michael Walker leads a special two-day workshop for teens in self-portraiture that makes ample use of the Norton Simon Museum's unique holdings in art from many cultures and eras. Students will visit many of the Museum's portraits and then, under J Michael's guidance, create their own "best" version of themselves - and, in fitting tribute to the Museum, see that work "framed" in a printed version of an antique frame to take home!
