Spontaneous as the paintings of Impressionist masters may seem, their work is actually complex and often intricately structured. Join artist Sylvana Barrett for a look beneath the surface of masterworks in the Museum’s collections in an exploration of the techniques used to create them. Period supplies and the new pigments ultramarine blue, vivid synthetic greens, chrome yellows and oranges, which made the paintings possible, are displayed to illustrate the program.

The program is for visitors of all ages, with comments and questions encouraged throughout.

Art educator Kaileena Flores-Emnace leads a two-day workshop exploring the exhibition Beyond Brancusi: The Space of Sculpture. Students view the artworks in the exhibition and discuss the ideas of some of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. The studio project empowers students to express their own ideas using non-traditional materials, while thinking about form, light and space.
