In conjunction with the exhibition In the Land of Snow: Buddhist Art of the Himalayas, artist Melissa Manfull leads a workshop based on thangka paintings. Thangkas are contemplative objects that incorporate iconographic imagery and depiction of real and imagined space. They are made of a variety of materials, including textiles, paint and wood. Participants tour the exhibition and examine the symbols and cosmic geographies found within the works before making thangka paintings of their own.
