Academic Intern

Open To: Graduate students in art history or museum studies

Term: Nine (9) months, beginning in September and ending in June

Stipend: $21,000 for the 9 month period (37.5 hours a week)

Deadline: All applications must be received by February 15 and all letters of response will be mailed by April 15.

The Norton Simon Museum offers graduate students the opportunity to work with its curators and collections staff on a range of hands-on, enriching and educational projects. This nine-month, paid internship is centered on the Museum’s outstanding art collection and can be structured to enhance the selected intern’s area of expertise. This is a terrific opportunity for a young scholar to be immersed in the museum field and take advantage of the region’s incredible cultural offerings. 

Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language is required. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: correspondence related to the collection, assisting visiting professionals, curatorial research, support for temporary and changing exhibitions, collections management projects, and various writing projects to include didactics, newsletter bulletins and press announcements.
