Security, Security Manager, Full Time
The Norton Simon Museum is known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled. Over a thirty-year period industrialist Norton Simon (1907–1993) amassed an exquisite collection of European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century and South and Southeast Asian art spanning 2,000 years. Approximately 1,000 works from the permanent collection of 12,000 objects are on view in the Norton Simon Museum’s galleries and sculpture garden throughout the year.
The Museum is located in beautiful Pasadena, California, just steps from the bustling Old Pasadena district known for its shops and restaurants, and adjacent to the vibrant neighborhoods of northeast Los Angeles, Glendale and South Pasadena. Summary
Reporting to the Director of Security, this full-time exempt position assists in the operation of the Security Department.
Qualifications
Position requires excellent judgment; strong communication, writing and computer skills and effective presentation, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Position requires at least three years of security supervision or military or civilian law-enforcement or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A college degree in a relevant field is beneficial. Experience with access control systems and related technologies as well as the protection of high-value or cultural property is highly desirable. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Red Cross,or be able to acquire this certification within one year of hire date. Must live within a 30-minute drive time to the Museum. A valid California driver’s license and personal automobile insurance are required.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Director of Security in the operation of the Security Department, keeping the Director informed of all matters affecting the department
- Ensures visitor and staff safety and security, provides first aid and directs medical response as necessary
- Manages the schedules for non-exempt security employees and participates in the review and disciplinary process as directed by the Director of Security
- Supervises and provides training for all Security Officers and Gallery Attendants
- Participates in investigations and prepares required reports
- Schedules and facilitates periodic fire and life safety drills for staff
- Conducts routine audits and inspections of security supplies, technologies, equipment and the Museum facilities and grounds
- Works with the Director of Security to ensure training, policies and procedures comply with best practices, laws and professional standards
- Will be assigned to a variety of duties and special events to meet the goals of the Museum and Security Department
Physical Requirements
This position requires excellent eyesight, use of a computer in a seated position, moderate physical lifting, twisting, walking, climbing stairs, prolonged standing, and the ability to remain alert at all times. Work may require strenuous physical activity related to responding to emergencies or alarms.
Schedule
Weekly schedule is five, eight-hour days, and may vary according to Museum needs and Manager availability. Security Manager must be able to work evening and weekend hours, including some holidays.
