Given exclusive, privileged access to The National Gallery, London, and the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the film documents the landmark exhibition Rembrandt: The Late Works (2014–15) while interweaving Rembrandt’s life story with behind-the-scenes preparations at these world-famous institutions. The exhibition focuses on highlights from the final years of Rembrandt’s life, commonly thought to be his finest ones.
