Thursday Summer Fun

Thursday Summer Fun is back! Starting on June 14 and continuing through July, spend Thursday afternoons at the Museum exploring the galleries and making original creations.

Recommended for families with children ages 4–10.

Sculptures for Our City
Thursday, June 14, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

If you could make sculptures for your neighborhood, what would you make and why? Take a walk through the Sculpture Garden and learn about its various sculptures and how they were placed there. Then design sculptures for your community using construction paper and maps.

Thursday, June 21, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Inspired by leaves, stems and petals, Ellsworth Kelly examined the natural environment around him to create drawings and prints. Explore his work and create prints inspired by forms found in nature.

Summer Scene-a-rama
Thursday, June 28, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Escape into scenes by Impressionist artists, where the sun shines bright and the ocean glistens. Then create a diorama of a summer scene using collage and window boxes.

Color Fun
Thursday, July 5, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

View artworks by Sam Francis and Vincent van Gogh. Then experiment with using paint sticks in an array of colors.

Thursday, July 12, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Look carefully at patterns found throughout the collections in painting and sculpture. Then create an artwork with a variety of patterns using rubbing plates and recycled materials.

Animal Creations
Thursday, July 19, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Go on an expedition through time and place studying animals depicted in the artworks at the Museum. Then invent your own creature using Model Magic, sequins, pipe cleaners, feathers and more.
