Blue-Green
1969
Peter Alexander (American, 1939-2020)
Not on View

A pioneer in the media of plastics and resin, Alexander is often associated with the Light and Space movement that emerged in Los Angeles during the mid-to late 1960s. Like many Light and Space artists, Alexander was interested in the illusory properties of plastics. From 1965 to 1972 he created a variety of objects in cast polyester resin. "Blue-Green" is characteristic of Alexander's resin wedge-shaped sculptures. In this series, the vertical orientation of the object is further emphasized by his subtle use of color. As the form narrows, the color becomes less dense, giving the illusion that the piece disappears.
