Description

Guy Dill continued drawing on the experiments of his predecessors by focusing his sculptural inquiries on specific architectural elements. By creating a work like Untitled, which relies directly on the ceiling and walls for its installation, Dill took the active step of recruiting the architecture to define the sculpture. The use of unworked elements in his sculpture—in this case, rope and wood—provided the artist with a sense of purity, as he felt that “raw materials bring you closer to an idea.” He preferred to rely on the natural state of his materials, feeling that their colors and surfaces infused his compositions with a certain complexity and energy.
