Diya has been waiting all year for Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Follow Diya to visit her family in India for this special Hindu holiday in The Light Within You, written by Namita Moolani Mehra and illustrated by Kamala Nair. As you prepare with Diya and her grandmother for nights of celebrations with neighbors, friends and family, consider a sculpture of Hindu deities Vishnu and Lakshmi. Afterward, learn how to create paper rangoli, a traditional geometric art form used as holiday decoration.
