Gold: A Conversation about Making and Meaning
November 15, 2025
Assistant Curator Lakshika Senarath Gamage, Associate Curator Maggie Bell, and Head of Conservation and Installations John Griswold
Gold: Enduring Power, Sacred Craft is the Museum’s first major exhibition uniting a selection of objects from its extraordinary holdings in European and Asian art, explored through the presence of gold. Research for this project has shed new light on the technical histories and material compositions of the works on view, and their relationships to one another across time and place. Join Lakshika Senarath Gamage, Assistant Curator, Maggie Bell, Associate Curator, and John Griswold, Head of Conservation and Installations, in conversation about these recent discoveries, which contribute to a broader understanding of the significance of gold in the spiritual, cultural and artistic practices represented in this exhibition.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, Gold: Enduring Power, Sacred Craft, on view December 13, 2024 through March 24, 2025.
