Accounting, Senior Accountant, Full Time

Summary

The Norton Simon Museum seeks an experienced Senior Accountant to assist in key accounting, tax and investment functions. Reporting to the Controller, the ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a high attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments.

Qualifications

Requires good judgment and communication, ability to maintain a high degree of discretion, and excellent finance (math) and computer skills. College degree required with two to five years prior experience in Accounting or Finance.  

Responsibilities

• Assists Chief Financial Officer and Controller in accounting, tax and investment functions
• Assists with the preparation of Form 990, Form 990-PF, and accompanying tax schedules, and calculates tax provisions and estimated tax payments
• Prepares various financial reports needed for tax filings and other state regulatory reporting
• Assists with month-end and year-end closings, including preparation of journal entries and financial statements
• Assists in the accounting oversight of the investment portfolios, including analysis, reconciliation and reporting of investment activities and performance
• Prepares various financial reports for the annual audits of two foundations
• Responsible for data entry of fixed assets for two foundations into the fixed asset application, including entering new asset acquisitions and asset disposals. Responsible for coordinating with department heads on timing of asset deployment and disposals. Reconciles fixed asset application to the general ledger
• Prepares various financial reports for board meetings
• Reviews and analyzes financial reports for the Garden café
• Acts as supporting back-up for Accounting personnel, as needed
• Executes special projects, as needed

Physical Requirements

This position is in an indoor office setting, with frequent use of office equipment including computer, keyboard, and mouse. May involve long periods of sitting and standing. Must be able to bend, twist, reach, and lift up to 15 pounds.

Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt position scheduled to work on-site Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
