This stone architectural fragment is from the region of Andhra Pradesh, where white and greenish-white limestone is abundant. This sculpture was once part of the drum slab of a Buddhist stupa (reliquary mound). Flying figures were often included in Buddhist scenes of veneration to signify the Buddha’s divinity.
