Pandorasville III: Standing Room Only
1967
James (Jack) Boynton (American, 1928-)
Not on View

During his two-month fellowship at Tamarind, James Boynton executed an astonishing 38 lithographs. Pandorasville Revisited, one of two suites the Texan completed while at the Southern California workshop, consists of 12 lithographs. The diminutive series employs the artist’s characteristic surrealist imagery, staging familiar organic forms and visual references in boxes for display in order to disrupt the viewer’s relationship to space and the real world. The suite was created with two sets of images—six on each stone—that were then torn apart after printing.
