Not on View

Ed Douglas studied with Jack Welpott at San Francisco State University, and was one of the original members of the Visual Dialogue Foundation. Founded in San Francisco in 1968 by a group of artists, the Visual Dialogue Foundation dedicated itself to promoting photography as a fine art through exhibitions and publications. In 1977, Douglas immigrated to Australia, where he teaches photography at the South Australian School of Art in Adelaide. Julio was shot with a medium-format camera, a Bronica 2 1/4. Less bulky than a large-format camera, and therefore easier for the artist to take on location, it nevertheless records a great amount of information and, in this case, matches the artist’s perception of a visual world lush with detail and nuance.
