Learn how to describe someone using, line, color and composition with artist Chiaki Kanda. Discover the techniques used by painters Francisco de Goya, Jan van Bijlert and Nicolas de Largillière to portray people in an age before the convenience of cameras and selfies. Students explore and share how details in the paintings inform their impressions of the person depicted. Using pencil and watercolor, students create their own portraits representing people who are important to them.
