DATE:
TIME:
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Teacher:
Richard Houston

Join artist and educator Richard Houston for a series of drawing classes exploring costume and draping of the clothed figure in the Norton Simon collections. Using artworks in the Museum’s Renaissance and Baroque galleries, participants learn how to design and draw the costumed figure.

When drawing the costumed model, one is, first and foremost, drawing the model underneath the costume. In the first session, participants will explore how gestural studies may be used to help design and compose the costumed model. For inspiration, the class will look at the work of Nicolas Poussin and other French artists of the 18th and 19th centuries.
