Letters by Artists: From Rubens to Picasso

Included were letters and notes by many famous artists such as Courbet, Daumier, Pissarro, Rodin, Matisse, and Picasso, as well as a number by lesser known masters. Two particularly important unpublished letters are a rare document on vellum signed by Peter Paul Rubens, and a letter by Paul Gauguin protesting treatment of the Tahitian people by French police. Also included is a deeply moving letter by Vincent van Gogh written near the end of his life. Supplementing the new acquistions are letters from the permanent collection by Klee, Feininger and Jawlensky.
