The Blue Four and their Contemporaries

Drawn from the Museum's permanent collection, The Blue Four and their Contemporaries  features the paintings and graphics of Blue Four artists Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Lyonel Feininger, and Alexei Jawlenski, as well as works by members of the Die Brücke and the Blaue Reiter groups.

The artists who composed the Blue Four, Jawlensky, Klee, Feininger, and Kandinsky, were organized by Emmy "Galka" Scheyer in March 1924 with herself as their representative. The group was held together by mutual friendship and by hope that Scheyer could sell their works in the United States. Scheyer came to America to promote the Blue Four by writing, lecturing, and organizing exhibitions until her death in 1945.
