Staff-Guided Tours for Grades 5–12

Staff-guided tours of 8–10 artworks, led by professional museum educators, promote careful observation and critical thinking through inquiry-based teaching strategies. Tours are offered on weekday mornings when the Museum is closed to the public at 9:30, 10:00, 10:30 and 11:00 am on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 9:30, 10:00, and 10:30 am on Friday.

Choose from among the following themes:

  • Highlights of the Collection, featuring art from throughout the Museum's Western and Asian art collections.
  • European and American Highlights, featuring art from the Museum's European and American collection.
  • India and Southeast Asia, featuring art from the Museum's Indian and Southeast Asian collections.
  • Art of France, featuring the Museum's collection of French art.
  • The Modern World, featuring art from the mid-19th through the 20th century.
  • Elements of Art, focusing on visual components and artistic techniques in art from throughout the Museum.
  • Women Artists, featuring art by women artists in the collection.
  • Sculpture, featuring sculpture from the Museum's European and Asian collections.
  • Special Exhibition, featuring art from the special exhibition.

Please note that tours can be tailored to classroom curriculum. Special requests are taken into consideration in designing tours that complement students’ interests and needs. Tours of Spanish Art are available upon request for smaller groups. Please include your request in the “Special Notes” section of the Staff-Guided Tour Request form.

Length: 75 minutes

Group Size: A minimum of 15 and a maximum of 110 students and chaperones are allowed per tour reservation.

There is no fee for either staff-guided tours or parking.

Reservations are required and must be made at least three weeks in advance.

If you wish to request more than one tour, please fill out a separate form for each tour you are requesting. 

Once you have correctly filled out the form, you will receive an email confirmation. If you do not receive a confirmation, then your tour is not scheduled and you need to contact the Education Department as soon as possible. You can reach us at (626) 844-6980 or educate@nortonsimon.org

Please be sure to read the guidelines included with your confirmation sheet and share them with your students and chaperones. 


Self-Conducted Teacher-Guided Visits for K–12 and College Students

Teachers and chaperones may bring school groups to the Museum during public hours, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We suggest that you allow 1 1/2 hours to explore the galleries and gardens in groups that meet the required student/teacher ratio (see Guidelines for School Visits). Please share the guidelines with your students and chaperones before your visit.

There is no fee for students, teachers and chaperones with reservations made three weeks in advance, but additional adults beyond the required student/teacher ratio are charged admission. Please note that parking is free.

Public Transportation Options

Pasadena Transit: The City of Pasadena provides a shuttle bus to transport passengers through the Pasadena Playhouse district, the Lake Avenue shopping district and Old Pasadena. A shuttle stop is located in front of the Museum. Please visit the Pasadena Transit for schedules.

Metro Bus: The Metro bus line #180/181 stops in front of the Museum. Please visit Metro for schedules.

Metro Rail: The Memorial Park Station on the Metro Gold Line, the closest Metro Rail station to the Museum, is located at 125 E. Holly St. at Arroyo Parkway. Please visit Metro for schedules.
