In Last Stop on Market Street, written by Matt de la Peña and illustrated by Christian Robinson, Grandma Nana teaches CJ to see wonder and beauty in their weekly bus ride.

Russian artist Liubov Popova (1889–1924) was inspired by her many train rides. In The Traveler she uses shape and color to describe the sights, sounds and speed of her journeys. In it, a woman with an umbrella walks through a busy train station surrounded by the Russian words for “gazette,” “hat,” and the roar of the train.

Consider what you see on your daily walk, car ride or bus ride. Using a pencil, divide a sheet of paper into many irregular shapes. Then, fill your shapes with images inspired your travels.
